Gorilla Rx Wellness, the first black-woman-owned dispensary in Los Angeles is celebrating two impactful years with A Great Day on Crenshaw all-day block party on Saturday, September 30th @ 11:00am – 10:00pm at their flagship location (4233 S Crenshaw Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90008). As they come into another year around the sun, Gorilla Rx has also launched an INDIEGOGO fundraising campaign as they expand services in their community with their new Gorilla University incubator space and their footprint to continue to support new product development, community organized events, and uplift Black-owned cannabis brands they have on their shelves.
The roster of community centered events have enlisted partners from local organizations to activate the mind, body, and soul of Gorilla Rx patrons with a block-party event. The day’s event will feature a morning ‘Breathe Good’ vinyasa yoga session with Walk Good LA, a movie night screening of “Set it Off” in partnership with LA-based creative collective Supervsn, and the in-store product launch of Gorilla Rx’s first cannabis product line, the GRX ‘Color Collection’ featuring a roll bar along with other activations. The block party will culminate with their Great Day on Crenshaw Portrait which has become a tradition to capture an image of the neighborhood that inspires daily.
The drop of their first product line, represents a milestone for Gorilla Rx as they continue to grow their footprint in the cannabis industry. With their ‘Color Collection’, Gorilla Rx celebrates Color by creating designer strains that ignite emotions and make even better memories. The strains are regarded as Blue Label, an Indica strain for those who want a long trip out to sea; the Pink Label, a sativa strain that ignites energy and uplifts your mood; and Black Label which will feature premium strains with exclusive drops. Each label is paired with its own energy and face of the community.
As they continue to expand “The House The People Built” and look back at a successful 2-years, Gorilla Rx is continuing to increase its impact by opening a social equity incubator next door to their dispensary retail space in Crenshaw, Gorilla University. This incubator is meant to be a resource to those entering into the social equity space to have access to expungement clinics, proper training, education, and tools necessary to succeed. In regards to this new community space and other initiatives, Gorilla Rx has launched an Indiegogo campaign. The goal of this campaign is to raise funds for community centered initiatives through Gorilla University and to continue to uplift diverse voices in the cannabis industry by funding new development of their retail space as well as their large selection of Black-owned cannabis brands. Overall, Black entrepreneurs typically receive less than 2% of all VC dollars each year while companies led by Black women receive less than 1%, according to data from Crunchbase (sited from CNBC News).
With a community-oriented ethos, Gorilla Rx was brought into the world as an offering to help grow a non-profit, and along the way grew into a movement. A Great Day on Crenshaw block party celebration will feature the following events:

Movie Night Returns to the Gorilla Rx Mavericks Flat Parking Lot in partnership with LA-based creative collective Supervsn which is focused on creating experiences which inspire creativity. Event goers will be treated culture classic film SET IT OFF, a 1996 American heist crime action film starring Jada Pinkett, Queen Latifah, Vivica A. Fox, and Kimberly Elise with pre-game sounds by DJ Brick of Ebony Beach Club. Ticket prices range from $25- $60. A $25 ticket includes ‘PROTECT THE VSN’ Supervsn Tote while a $60 ticket includes an additional curated GrXperience Film Club Kit.
