As the New York cannabis market continues to grow, we set our eyes on some of the burgeoning brands, cities that have long-standing connections to the plant and communities that played a role in making New York cannabis culture part of what it is today.
Oneonta, New York’s popular connection to the plant goes back to the 70’s when the town adopted the nickname “Stoneonta” from the students who went to the local colleges and universities looked to cannabis for the relief we all have come to love from the plant.
MARY visited Oneonta to capture the vibrant and evolving cannabis culture in the region and highlight a few local pioneers who are shaping the industry and leading with passion and purpose through the intersection of community, creativity, and cultivation, showcasing how Oneonta has become a hub for cannabis innovation. In our feature, we explored how these local leaders are nurturing a thriving industry while staying true to their roots and creating a positive impact far beyond the region.
Korey Rowe – DOSHA Dispensary
Korey Rowe, a U.S. Army veteran and filmmaker who made history by opening Oneonta’s first legal dispensary, DOSHA Farms, which provides safe, accessible, affordable, and high-quality cannabis products to adult consumers in the New York State market. Rowe took it upon himself to intervene when the town of Oneonta was on the brink of passing a law that exceeded its legal authority. With his expertise, Rowe informed the town officials of their errors and offered insights that helped them avoid legal complications, protecting the town and its residents. Rowe’s proactive approach continues to demonstrates his commitment to ensuring justice for all.
Tyler Walsh – Stoneonta Clothing
Tyler Walsh, founder of the lifestyle brand Stoneonta, which he launched while attending SUNY Oneonta in 2015. Tyler’s entrepreneurial journey reflects the creative spirit and growth of Oneonta’s cannabis scene. The company has gained success by selling apparel and accessories that play up the legacy term associated with the supposed popul ar use of cannabis on campus.
