Superette Opens SuperMarket Within Shipping Container

Superette is at it again with a new retail experience to push the creativity within the cannabis industry forward with design and conceptual thinking.

Following the introduction of their express convenience shop “Sip ‘N’ Smoke” that opened next to Trinity Bellwoods park this summer, Superette is opening its first SuperMarket at Toronto’s award-winning, innovative, retail marketplace Stackt Market. In keeping with their overarching design ethos – taking inspiration from familiar and nostalgic retail environments to create their immersive shops – SuperMarket follows the blueprint of a quintessential neighborhood grocery store, from the interior design and customer flow, to merchandising and product assortment, for the latest concept in Superette’s collection of pioneering cannabis shops.

Staying true to a grocery store experience and diverging from traditional and expected cannabis retail practices, there is no menu at SuperMarket. Instead, customers shop with their eyes as they would in a traditional supermarket, with guidance from a budtender should they need it. Superette’s curation of weed, fashion, accessories and in-house collections are merchandised alongside Superette-ified household staples like Super O’s, Sup Spam, and more. A Wheel of Fortune-style “Super Spin” game and Rocket Shaped gumball machine round out the beloved Superette shopping experience, where nostalgia, gamification and familiarity converge.

The 800 sq. foot SuperMarket is opening inside a shipping container at Toronto’s Stackt Market, a mixed-use retail space and ever-evolving cultural marketplace with ongoing community programming that opened in 2019 and was recently named winner of Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Award for Retail.

Superette’s team commits to being a part of the communities they are in, incorporating hyperlocal elements into their store designs and partnering with local businesses on collaborative initiatives (Superette’s “Munchie Phones” raised more than $10K in 2020 for local independent restaurants) and encouraging customers to patronize neighborhood businesses through creative content and community partnerships. SuperMarket joins their convenience shop “Sip ‘N’ Smoke’, which exclusively sells pre-rolls and infused beverages from a 600 sq. ft parkside kiosk, in a string of forthcoming new retail concepts including a Superette SnackBar, SuperStop and more. The brand will also be expanding into the US market in 2022.
